HEAD COACH UPDATE: 💙 The 9th and 10th of November saw Newquay Cormorants and North Cornwall Dragons hosting a two day meet at the Bodmin leisure centre. As usual there were plenty of great swims from Cormorants but more importantly we had fifty seven swimmers entered, the most we have ever seen. It was great for our youngest swimmers to get some competition experience and many were successful in recording qualifying times for the 2025 Cornwall County Championships to be held in January and February. The meet was also important in that it featured the 1500 metre freestyle event. This is the longest event in pool swimming and is not featured in many meet programmes so it was great experience for those that entered it. The highlight of the event was Zeek Streeter and Samson Hague both swimming times that ranked them inside the top 30 twelve year old boys in GB this year. Overall Newquay swimmers came away with 50 gold, 37 silver and 25 bronze medals. These results when coupled with such a fantastic turnout marked a hugely successful competition for the club! Separately on the 16&17th of November Robyn Fitzhenry competed at the Swim Bournemouth meet in an attempt to get further qualifying times for the British Short Course Championships being held in December at Ponds Forge, Sheffield. She was unfortunately just outside her personal best in the 50m backstroke but put her disappointment to one side and recorded a fantastic 2 second personal best in the 200m event, ranking her in the top 10 in GB and qualifying her to swim that event alongside the 100m backstroke that she had already qualified for. Over the next couple of weekends we have swimmers competing locally at the Carn Brea Invitational meet and the County Rising Stars meet and Timmy and Robyn off to the Nationals, good luck to all!

SHORT COURSE WINTER REGIONAL REPORT… On the first weekend in November five Newquay Cormorants swimmers competed in the South West Regional Short Course Championships at Millfield school, Somerset. All our swimmers performed well recording some fantastic results. Timmy Jones swam the 50m,100m,200m & 400m freestyle and had four quality swims that qualified him across all four events for the British National Short Course Championships in Sheffield next month. Will Davies had three great swims, his 200m backstroke being the sixth fastest for a 14 year old boy in GB. His 1500m freestyle and 200m butterfly were ranked in the top 20 nationally. Hannah Hautot raced the 50 & 100m breaststroke and had a great personal best in the shorter event. Robyn Fitzhenry had multiple swims but the highlight was her performance across the backstroke events. Racing 50m, 100m & 200m she recorded times that rank her in the top 20 in GB in all three events and will also be competing in the National Championships. All four swimmers reached finals and swam commendably across the whole weekend. Molly Fitzhenry competed in the 1500m freestyle and despite having had very limited training time recently, recorded a really credible time just outside her personal best. These fantastic results across all four strokes and from the shortest to longest race distances demonstrate the fantastic breadth and diversity of talent across the Cormorants squad. - HEAD COACH 💙

Hi Hi 👋🏽 You may have seen on SPOND we’ve shared a link to our Swimmer Code of Conduct. ‘What is a code of conduct’? we hear you ask…well let us make it make sense 👍🏽 Simply put, it’s an opportunity for our swimmers to agree to continuing the brilliant, focussed, positive and all round awesome behaviours they already evidence. 🌟 It also supports the implementation of Swim Englands Wavepower approach, a child safeguarding document that identifies that all swimmers should be part of safe, inclusive and positive swim environments. And we know that positive environments start with each and every one of us making a commitment to behaving in ways that support that. We got this!!! 🏆 So please, if you can, find some time to talk your swimmer through the link and tick the box that says they’ve read it and will continue to commit to being the brilliant swimmers we’re so very, very proud of! 💙

A few weekends ago we had the pleasure of taking part in the @carn_brea_helston_swim_club meet and what a meet it was!!!! Joined by some of our youngest swimmers and even some of our Masters, it was a great meet to reacquaint ourselves with competition swimming. Our swimmers did so well and the club walked away with 31 GOLDS 🥇27 SILVERS 🥈and 14 BRONZE medals!!!! 😱😍👌🏼🌟 and two of our lads, Freddie and Samson Hague, achieved competition best times for the 400 IM and 200 Fly and the 100 Back, respectively! (Must be something in the genes 🤔) Cracking work swimmers, more comps on the way 💙 @cornwall_county_asa

REMEMBER WE SAID WE’D INTRODUCE OUR COMMITTEE?…well meet MICHELLE 💙 Michelle is our competition secretary and Masters Rep. What does that mean? Let us tell you…Michelle’s role on the committee is to make sure our swimmers can access a range of competitions throughout the year, comps that fulfill all the race styles and lengths that our swimmers want experience racing and on dates that ensure they’ve had the chance to qualify for bigger competitions like Counties, Regionals and Nationals. She has to work with Ian to ensure the club are fulfilling his vision as well as supporting our peer clubs when they organise and hold competitions of their own. Yikes ! And if that wasn’t enough Michelle then also sorts through every single swimmers set of entries per comp, and inputs them on a really big application system all within some super tight deadlines! AND THEN ON TOP OF THAT, Michelle will often be found in the recording room at comps with bestie Nikki (the hunkette to our Hunk Big A- more on Nikki soon) ensuring all NQY/NCD swim meets have accurate timekeeping and places are recorded correctly and sent off to swim rankings! 😅 AND ON TOP OF THAT, ON TOP OF THAT…Our Michelle is a Masters swimmer and still competing and with a history of being a badass water polo player too! Those super speedy Hague offspring belong to Michelle 💙💙💙 What do we love most about Michelle?: Absolute inspiration!!! If she’s not organising all the comps under the sun she’s swimming all the lengths or running some wildly long distance…absolute pocket rocket! She’s also got a crackingly sharp sense of humour, excellent comedic timing and FYI won’t give up when shooting hoops! #willaskyouaquestionwhenyouvejustshovedaflapjackinyourmouththough #thatwasawkward 🤣🫣🌟 @cornwall_county_asa

Diary of a Swim Club Secretary… ‘My year of training towards my goal of swimming 12km round Tresco on the Isles of Scilly has reached its end…for now. 9 months of regular swimming increasing up to 33km a couple of weeks before the event, with some 10km river swims has been tough but rewarding. Only to be swarmed by Mauve jellyfish or “People eaters” who stung and left their marks over many of us!! The challenge became a mental one, how to keep swimming in jellyfish soup!! Although frustrated not to be allowed to swim 12km, I managed to get my head in and through one of my fears!! A beautiful place to be ❤️’ 🌟 Our awesome Annie has worked so hard and been an incredible inspiration to us all! What she’s achieved has been unreal and those pesky jellyfish just add to what was already a formidable challenge. Despite not being allowed to complete the final stretch, we’re still left incredibly impressed at what she achieved! The time will come Annie, we know it will! @cornwall_county_asa

So long to the English Nationals 👋🏽 💙 The last day ended with both Timmy and Robyn performing well. Timmy swam a PB in the 50 Fly and followed it up with another PB in the 200 Free qualifying for the final and then finishing tenth. Robyn swam a PB in the 100 Back and finished 11th overall despite racing at the bottom end of the 14/15 age group. Some great performances over the fortnight with every one of our swimmers making at least one final. An incredible achievement 👍 Ian @cornwall_county_asa

HEAD COACH REPORT 📣 Last week Will Davies & Kieran Williams (pic 1) represented Newquay Cormorants at the British Summer Long Course Championships held at Ponds Forge Sheffield. Will had 3 great swims recording personal best times in all his events and making the final of the 200 backstroke finishing as #8 in GB. Kieran swimming in the disability para S10 class didn’t quite match some of his previous performances but still made multiple finals just missing out on the podium. At the weekend Meg Lee (pic 2) competed in the National Open Water Championships, also held in Sheffield. Meg produced a fantastic performance in the 3 km lake swim finishing a very creditable 21st in the female 13 years class. This week Will, Timmy Jones, Robyn Fitzhenry & JJ (pic3) are competing in the English Summer National Long Course Championships also held at Ponds Forge. 💙 Once again Cormorants have qualified more National swimmers than any other club in Cornwall, a fantastic achievement for a small club. Good luck to all competing and for anyone interested in watching there is live coverage available via the Swim England website. - Ian

Our Meg recently took part in the Regional Open Water Swimming Championships and swam in the under 14 category. Out of the 30 in her group, roughly half were from South West and our girl finished a brilliant 9th place overall and 4th in the whole of the South West!! Meg had to swim two, 1k laps of the lake without a wetsuit 😱 as the water temperature was just above the threshold for suits. Going out with the flurry of swimmers at the start our Meg set off with a good speed and maintained her position throughout. She’s qualified for Nationals at the end of July and will swim 3k (potentially without a wetsuit😱) Meg was also awarded the Granger Trophy for Best Open Water Swim at our annual AGM Awards ceremony 💙 Well done Meg! We’re so proud of you 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 @cornwall_county_asa

REMEMBER WE SAID WE’D BE INTRODUCING OUR COMMITTEE…💙… Meet Bec!!! Now you’ll be pleased to hear that our club operates under the guidance and in line with the requirements set out by the ASA. If you have any concerns about the welfare of children in the club then it’s our Bec you should be speaking to. Bec is the clubs Safeguarding Lead and Welfare Officer and she takes the role very seriously. It’s important that if you are concerned for the welfare of a child then Bec is the first point of contact and you can contact her on ncwelfareofficer@gmail.com Bec will then follow the processes as identified by the ASA and Wavepower to explore, report, escalate or close the concern dependent on the detail. In order to keep everyone safe, it’s vital that any welfare or safeguarding concern is dealt with confidentially so remember see or speak to Bec first and follow the guidance offered from her 💙 What do we love most about Bec?: super understanding and non judgmental, always up for a giggle, expert host (our committee meetings are nearly always at Becs house!) and offers cracking haircuts and shoulder massages: she can do it all! 💙

You will have seen our brilliant and willing team of volunteer committee members at the recent AGM and we just wanted to reiterate what we said on that wondrous night, that our focus is absolutely about ensuring a high quality swim club experience for each and every one of our brilliant swimmers. Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing who our committee members are and what role they undertake in the club and so if you spot us at training and you have ideas or feedback on how we could make the club experience even better, feel free to pop over for a chat or of course email Annie. We’ll bring your thoughts to our regular committee meetings and share back any relevant outcomes with you! So let’s meet Annie! Annie is our Club Secretary and the person who does a HUGE amount of running around behind the scenes, organising ALL THE THINGS!!! Literally! Annie is the person formalising our committee agendas, minuting everything that was said and holding us all to account on our actions. She manages events, swimmer and parent enquiries, new starters and ensures our policies and processes are up to date too. And that’s not even half of it. You’re also likely to see Annie working as a Team Manager at comps! What a pro! On top of all of that, Annie is one of our Masters swimmers and recently competed in the Regional Open Water Championships coming 1st in the South West Region and earning a Gold in her age group. Annie has evidently shared her passion, determination and commitment for swimming with her children, both of whom swim in the Performance group. What we love most about Annie: mega organised, can spin all the plates, welcoming and calming energy, would give Sarah Connor a run for her money! 💙

Last weekend we took an amazing EIGHTEEN swimmers to compete in the Plymouth Leander Level 1 National Qualifying Long Course Meet. The swimmers were aged from 9-16 and enjoyed racing against competitors from London, Wales and the South Coast in addition to their usual rivals from across the South West. There were some great results with most of our senior swimmers reaching finals and our younger swimmers picking up a multitude of age group medals! 🥇🥈🥉 This competition marked the closure of the National Qualifying Window for the British and English Summer Championships in Sheffield and invitations to the top swimmers in the country from British Swimming/Swim England will go out next week. Currently it looks like up to four Newquay swimmers may be invited which would be a fantastic achievement for the swimmers and the club 💙 - Ian, Head Coach

THE EDIT YOU’VE BEEN WAITING FOR…CORMORANTS AT REGIONALS 2024 💙 🌟 The last 2 weekends of April saw 5 Cormorants swimmers competing in the Regional Age Group Long Course (50m)Championships held in Bristol on the first weekend and Millfield school on the second weekend. The competition is for the best 11-14 year olds in Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire, Devon, Dorset and Cornwall and as such qualification is only achieved through meeting tough qualifying times. The South West Region is the home of 3 of the strongest clubs in the UK and as such the quality of competition is really high. Despite this ALL 5 of our swimmers qualified for finals (fastest 8 swimmers in each event), a fantastic achievement. Three of our swimmers won medals with a total haul of 3 silver and 4 bronze. The South West Regional Youth Championships were then held over three days on the bank holiday weekend at the start of May. This competition is for swimmers aged 15 years and over and we had five swimmers who qualified for the competition. Despite all of them suffering illness, and the pressure and distraction of school exams in the weeks leading up to the event they all performed really well with some great swims including making some finals and picking up a silver medal - Head Coach Ian 💙 CORMORANTS YOU ARE UNSTOPPABLE 🌟 @cornwall_county_asa

POST CONTINUES IN COMMENTS… As we hurtle towards our Summer for 2024 (everything crossed it’s going to be a scorcher🌞) we’re in planning mode to ensure our upcoming AGM (June) is as fun (and of course as informative) as it possibly can be. Vic, our expert in fundraising, is beavering away to ensure we’ve got the most enticing raffle prizes - more on those soon 👀 After the success of our more recent fundraising antics 🏇🏇🏇 some of you asked a great question… ‘What are we fundraising for?’ - so here goes… 🌟 Firstly, our fees are some of the lowest around and for our Club swimmers they equate to just £3:50 an hour!!! For the level of coaching provided and pool time on offer, that is a total bargain and a fraction of the cost of swimming lessons 😃 🌟 We’ve managed to secure extra pool time at no extra cost for parents and guardians 👍🏽 Yes we’ve had to jiggle the timetable around and we recognise that’s not ideal for everybody (we’re working closely with Better to make it work for everyone if we can) but it has meant more lanes available for our swimmers to spread out and take advantage of their training even more. 🌟 We like to keep a buffer should pool costs increase! Our committee has made a commitment to endeavouring to keep fees as low as we can but pool and energy costs continue to rise. We’re incredibly proud of the fact that we haven’t increased Fees since January 2023 despite an 8% increase in pool costs. Dipping into our buffer means we can do this. 🌟 We need our Head Coach poolside at comps!!! We’ve seen it and we’ve heard you say just how awesome it is to have a Head Coach be at every meet, offering further coaching and feedback pre and post race. We know that Ian’s expertise, time and energy is an asset beyond measure for our Swimmers and so those fundraising pennies go towards travel and accommodation where it’s absolutely necessary.

CORMORANTS EASTER INVITATIONAL 2024 was a SMASH HIT!!!!! 💥💥💥 We are beyond proud of ALL of our swimmers who entered and took part in the Cormorants and NCD Easter Invitational but it was particularly our Club 1 and Club 2 swimmers who stole the show this time!!!! For many of them it was their first taste of competition and yet they showed grit, determination and above all else, ABSOLUTE JOY!! 🤩 Medals were won and some of our Club 2 swimmers even found their names on The Swim England ranking Table 😱🤩 Our Head Coach said ‘It was a fantastic turn out from Cormorants, I’ve never seen so many of them poolside! It was a really great competition and a testament to the up and coming talent in the club’. HUGE CONGRATULATIONS Cormorants 🌟💙🌟 KEEP AT IT!!!! @cornwall_county_asa

So weekend one of the Swim England South West Regional Championships has taken place at Bristol and oh what a weekend it was! We’ve had medals, tight finals, celebrations, frustrating starts and solid returns from illness. Each and every one of our swimmers that qualified for Regionals has given it their all and we couldn’t be prouder of their journeys and distance travelled. Their resilience, grit, determination and passion for what they do is so inspiring and we can’t wait to see what the next few weekends bring (more on them soon we promise). From our (very sweaty) position on the viewing balcony it was evident though, that there was someone else working extra hard this weekend and that was our Head Coach! (I’m gonna get ‘the look’ for writing this as we know the Big Man is a humble creature but here goes…) During every warm up session, our coach prefaced swims with instruction tailored to each individual swimmer. He walked up and down the pool beside them as they swam, timed them all and gave even more feedback between sets. We saw swimmers applying and modifying technique in preparation for races with ease and confidence as a result of our coaches clear, direct and applicable feedback. This level of attentiveness stood out as a beacon of the quality and expertise that our Head Coach offers and we couldn’t be prouder! Beyond this his consistent approach to pre and post race feedback was in full swing and our swimmers knew the score- you see Ian before you see anyone else! #thatsenoughnow #donttellhimwelovehim #playitcool #wevegotagoodenthough @cornwall_county_asa

HEAD COACH REPORT: Newquay Cormorants swimmers have spent the last few weeks, throughout March and April, travelling the Region and competing in various Open Meets. We started at Penzance with the Carn Brea & Helton Fast 5 Meet. This is a very different format to most Meets with each competitor having to complete 5 separate races, 50 metres of each stroke and a 100 metre Individual Medley. Each race scores points with the total determining the overall winner in each age group. There were cash prizes for a separate skins event in the Junior and Senior categories and for the top 3 boys and girls in each age group. Our swimmers all competed really well and had a great time leaving with a smile on their faces, particularly those who picked up some prize money! The following week we were at Plymouth and back to more serious competition at the Plymouth Leander level 1 National Qualifiers Meet held in the 50 metre pool. This event was held with heats and finals to replicate the format of National and Regional Championships. We had a number of top swims registering on the British rankings giving those swimmers a great chance of making the qualifying list for the British Championships and English Nationals in the summer. The weekend of the 5th April, we travelled to Bristol to compete in their level 1 National Qualifier. Again held in the mandated 50 metre pool long course format this competition attracted clubs from across the South West, London, Wales and the Midlands. Despite the extremely high level of competition we again came away with plenty of medals and yet more ranking swims. As an aside we had a number of 9-11 year old swimmers who competed at these level 1 Meets. Despite being too young to compete at National Championships it was great experience for them going forward and shows the production line of home grown top class swimmers is alive and well in Newquay! - Ian Keep your eyes peeled for more from our Easter invitational comp and Regionals! 💙

This is the sub 60 cup and it is passed on to each swimmer when they first record a time faster than 1 minute for 100metres in competition. The recipient keeps hold of the trophy until the next Cormorant swimmer achieves the milestone at which point he/she passes it on. Will Davies recorded a time of 58 seconds in winning the 14 years 100 freestyle final at the County Championships and was awarded the cup from its previous winner, Josh Eyre. 💙 #wowzers #legacy #smashedit @cornwall_county_asa

Oi Oi!!!! So Sat 24th Feb is set to be a BIG night of fun for those coming to our Cormorants Race Night at The Griffin Inn and not only do you get the opportunity to bring family and friends to bet big on each race but this time, right now, offers you the opportunity to buy horses…and here’s why that’s something you might want to do… We have 16 tickets to win for Saturday 25th May at the London Aquatics Centre to see The Adam Peaty International Swim Comp!!! You’ll get to see races that include all strokes and there’s likely to be top names there including Adam Peaty himself!!!! To be in with a chance of winning all you have to do is buy a horse and name it! AND that horse then has to win its race! Horses are £5 each or you can buy 3 horses for £10 - more chance to win! If your named horse wins it’s race you’ll win 2 AP tickets 😱 omg! (A bunch of cormorants swimmers, in LANDAN TAAAAAN, watching some of the fastest swimmers in the world?! Imagine the viiiiiibe) Anyway, if you’ve already bought a horse, yeehaw, and if you’re keen to now get stuck in a buy then find Vicky at training and have cash at the ready or transfer funds in the normal way with ref: RACE and then your surname and drop us a message with your horse names. On the night, despite the anticipation of potentially winning big tickets to see the sporadically tashed hunk that is Peaty, any bets you place on horses in individual races could mean cash prizes! Heads up, you might want to spend that cash on the limited number of further Sat Night AP international competition tickets we’ll have available…these will be released at a discounted rate on the SUNDAY 25th Feb! More on that soon 💙 Giddy up and buy those stallions!!!! 🐎

HEAD COACH REPORT 🎤 The last weekend of January and first weekend of February saw competitive swimmers from all over Cornwall racing at the Penzance and Bodmin pools in the 2024 Cornish County Amateur Swimming Association championships. 💙 Newquay Cormorants were one of nine clubs that entered swimmers and we enjoyed some fantastic results. Almost every swimmer recorded multiple personal best times in their various races with a number of swimmers posting times at the sharp end of the British Rankings. 💙 Overall our results tallied up to 49 gold, 33 silver and 29 bronze medals across the two weekends. We finished with 10 individual County Champions and Cormorants now have 13 swimmers that have achieved qualifying times for the South West Regional Championships held at Plymouth, Millfield School and Bristol in April and May. 💙 Our top performance swimmers are now moving into a phase of long course racing in 50 metre pools to prepare for the Regional Championships and hopefully record some times that will earn qualification to the National Championships in the summer. 💙 Incredible work swimmers…more on our County Success coming soon!!!! 👀 @cornwall_county_asa

The first weekend at Penzance hosted the 800 metre event with Bodmin hosting the 1500 metres (the longest event held in competitive pool swimming) on the second weekend. A team of fifteen swimmers competed with almost all of them participating in both swims. There were some fantastic swims with most swimmers recording personal best times and ten swimmers posting qualifying times for this years Regional Championships. The final Cormorants medal haul was seven gold, ten silver and three bronze medals. Newquay swimmers will be competing in the rest of the 2024 County programme over the next two weekends.

Remember when we mentioned Timmy had been busy….well here’s what he’s been up to… 💙 Newquay swimmer Timmy Jones has had a fantastic week in Sheffield just before Christmas competing at the British National Short Course Championships. Held over 4 days at the Ponds Forge International Centre this is the premier 25 metre pool competition in the UK. Timmy swam 4 races, the 50 metre, 100 metre, 200 metre and 400 metre freestyle events, showing both the breadth of his talent and his versatility as an all round swimmer. On day one in the 50m event he swam a great personal best time of 24.48 seconds. Moving on to day two and the 100m he was again in great form recording another personal best of 53.35 seconds. Day three was the 200m and yet another personal best of 1.56.49. Day four was his final event and Timmy had saved his best performance until last. His time of 4.07.29 was a three second improvement on his previous best time and ranks him the number 1 swimmer in the South West of England and number 14 in Great Britain at the event, a fantastic achievement considering the limited water time and poor training facilities he has access to in comparison to the big city clubs and private schools that most of his competitors enjoy. Timmy will be back in competition with his Cormorants team mates early in the New Year at the Cornish County Championships - words by Ian Head Coach 💙 Timmy we’re so proud of you! You’re such an inspiration 🌟

Well who do we have here? …It’s some of our wondrous Masters swimmers 💙 Ranging in age, these swimmers dedicate their Monday and Wednesday mornings to getting in the pool and working hard! Some of them in lanes next to their children. Some of them maintaining a lifetime of fitness and some of them starting something new. The most beautiful thing about these swimmers (other than their technique of course) is the sacred time they protect, a dedication to themselves. Setting aside their egos to be present in a space of challenge and learning, in lanes next to the champions of the future. On Monday and Wednesday mornings, that pool is a magical place! 🌟⭐️ Keep your eyes peeled for some underwaters from our Masters @cornwall_county_asa #foreveryoung

HEAD COACH REPORT 💙⭐️ . Swimmers from Newquay Cormorants have had two busy and successful weekends in competition. Our swimmers attended the Dawlish Firecracker meet at the Life Centre, Plymouth held over two consecutive Sundays on the 19th and 26th November, and at the Carn Brea meet held at Penzance on Saturday 25th of November. The club had some great swims returning from the Region wide Dawlish meet with 12 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze medals and some really impressive personal best times. It was the turn of our predominantly less experienced swimmers at Penzance where our team of 25 competitors aged from 8 years upwards managed an incredible haul of 35 gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze medals. Many of our youngsters recorded County qualifying times and will be competing in the Cornish County Championships early next year! -Ian 💙⭐️💙⭐️💙 Huge congratulations to our brilliant Cormorants swimmers who continue to give it their all in the pool 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️ with a special mention going to Coral who at the time of the CBH meet placed 2nd in Britain for 200 Breaststroke 😱 WOW Coral, you super swimmer!!!!! ⭐️👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 @cornwall_county_asa

Before we scream and shout about how EPIC this weekend has been…and oh baby has it been!!!!…it’s important to acknowledge how utterly awesome last weekend was too 💙⭐️🫣 … On Sunday 11th and 12th November Newquay Cormorants jointly hosted a Swim Meet with North Cornwall Dragons at the Dragon Leisure Centre, Bodmin. The format included most events from 50 metre sprints in all strokes all the way up to 1500m long distance swims! The Meet was a great success generating many entrants aged 9 and over from across the County and beyond with some swimmers from Plymouth Leander Swim Club looking for times. Many of the younger swimmers were getting their first taste of competition swimming distances beyond sprints and we had some great results on the day. The number of competitors and spectators generated a fantastic atmosphere in the pool that everyone enjoyed and huge thanks as always to our parents who undertake numerous roles that keep these meets running. We came away with a medal tally of 43 GOLDS, 24 SILVER and 13 BRONZE medals! Some of our swimmers even placed in the Top 15 in Great Britain! (yep that’s you Samson and Zeek) 💙 The next few weekends present the Club with a flurry of meets in which swimmers can practice competing and building times for the County Championships coming in February 2024. You didn’t think we’d forgotten did you?….The Winter Regional Short Course Championship 2023 took place at Millfield School on the 3rd-5th of November. This event has only 2 qualifying age brackets, 16 and under or 17 plus. Newquay Cormorants had 4 swimmers taking part in this prestigious event who all swam brilliantly recording some fantastic swims. Will Davies was one of only three 13 year olds across the 6 south west counties to qualify for the men’s 1500 metre freestyle, his excellent swim showed a real maturity in his pacing and resulted in a great personal best placing him in the top 10 swimmers for his age in Great Britain. Similarly, Robyn Fitzhenry was one of only three 13 year old girls to qualify for the women’s 100 metre individual medley event. Robyn swam a personal best firmly placing her in the top 20 for her age in GB. Hannah Hautot competed in the women’s 50 metre breaststroke and was just outside her personal best by one tenth of a second with a really strong swim. Timmy Jones competed in 6 events recording a personal best in each! In 4 events he recorded qualifying times for the National Championships in December at the International pool in Sheffield, the most important and prestigious Short Course meet in the Country. His times also placed him in the top 10 in GB. You are brilliant ⭐️ huge congratulations swimmers 💙 @cornwall_county_asa

The start of a new academic year sees swimmers not only moving onwards and upwards in their school years but some shifts too, in our swimming groups. Some swimmers move from Club 1 to Club 2 and others from Club 2 to Performance! Big steps all round! Just like attending school 5 days per week is a constant, so is the rigour, challenge and relentless attack our swimmers experience and evidence in their sunrise and sunset sessions. Their commitment, resilience and passion for the pool doesn’t go unnoticed! 🔥💙 And it will be needed as we move into comp season; we see you Sprint Meet!!! Swimmers, remember you have the power to make every session and every day, GREAT! Chase your dreams ⭐️💙 @cornwall_county_asa

Woah!!!!! So many of our Cormorants Swimmers competed in the Surf Life Saving Great British Nipper and Youth National Ocean Championships in Dorset in mid August that we couldn’t miss an opportunity to celebrate how brilliant each and every one of them were. There were lots of great performances with individual significant placings, medals and national titles as well as points collated for their teams and most importantly, lots and lots of fun! 21 Cormorants swimmers competed for Perranporth Surf Life Saving Club and many too for Newquay Surf Life Saving Club. There were a number of teams that contained all Cormorants swimmers: 🥇 U15 tube rescue (Timmy Jones and Freddie Hague) Perranporth 🥈 U15 board relay (Douglas Hague, Will Davies, Sam Lee)Perranporth 🥈 U15 board rescue (Douglas Hague and Sam Lee) Perranporth 🥉Jess, Enzo and Lottie board relay (Newquay) 🥉 Elowen and Seren in the surf relay with Elowen on the swim and Seren on board for Newquay Surf Life Saving. Elowen also came 9th in individual swim. And many more of our swimmers who medalled and earned points for their relative teams: Toby Carter Newquay (made finals in Flags, Sprints and Board Relay) Alfie Coleman Smith (Newquay) Erika and Lois Sutherland (Newquay) Isabelle and Mackenzie (Newquay) 🥈Mollie and Robyn Fitzhenry Sprint Relay (Perranporth) Sam and Meg Lee (Perranporth) Meg received 4 medals 💁🏻‍♀️ Timmy Jones (Perranporth) Xavier Jeffs (Perranporth) Lenna Iliffe (Perranporth) Teyah Rickwood (Perranporth) Isobel Davies (Perranporth) Douglas and Freddie Hague (Perranporth) So many more swimmers and even more medals than we can list here, so we’re sorry if we’ve missed you 😫😩 but please check out the pages of our friends over at @perranporthslsc and @newquaysurflifesavingclub and see in more detail how our swimmers excelled with the other clubs they attend alongside our Cormorants Swim Training 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 (This song is super popular on insta reels but did you know it references Miriam Makeba, a South African singer and civil rights activist. Inclusion always ✊)

Our incredible Timmy recently competed at Ponds Forge International Swimming Centre for the English National Meet where he had qualified for an incredible 8 events! Unfortunately a freak accident playing school sports meant Timmy had a facial fracture keeping him out of the water for 6 weeks, hampering his preparation. Nevertheless, with only 3 weeks of training prior to racing, Timmy had some great swims recording a number of personal bests and qualifying for finals in both the 100 freestyle and 200 butterfly. (Ian - Head Coach)Timmy we are so proud of everything you’ve achieved. Being out of the pool for so long was tough but you came back fighting. Your resilience and determination shon through and you evidenced your complete commitment to always doing your best! What an inspiration! @cornwall_county_asa
